Muara Karang Expansion Project, Jakarta, Indonesia
The 500MW expansion of the Muara Karang power plant commenced commercial operations in October 2021. Medas's team of experts from various disciplines assisted Muara Karang in enhancing the process safety and asset management of their bio-fermentation facilities.
Muara Karang power plant location and background: Operated by state-owned electricity provider Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), the Muara Karang power plant is located in the northern suburbs, approximately 10km northwest, of Jakarta, Indonesia. It had an installed capacity of 1.6 GW before the 500MW expansion.
Our consultants from the Water Management, Safety, and Asset Management departments were involved throughout the whole project. The audit started with four well-planned days of site visits, interviews, and samples. Thereafter, the close-out report was presented to the plant leadership. The discussions held were the starting point for an improvement roadmap.
